The Tamil film Thug Life which released on Thursday is a mega disaster as it collects around 27 crore nett in three days. The film collected around 13.50 crore nett on day one and fell to 6.50 crore nett on the second day which was Friday and the third day (Saturday) is looking in the same range or a few lakhs higher. The film released in Hindi also but collections were hardly anything with 3 days looking around 1 crore nett. 

The losses for the distributors will be colossal practically everywhere the film is released be it India or overseas as many distributors will have paid Minimum Guarantee's and the ones who gave advances will be thanking their lucky stars. The film got a huge digital deal of 150 crore from streaming giant Netflix but god knows what happens to that deal now and does it have the benchmarks in the deal where you have to get certain box office numbers for the deal to hold. This 150 crore will be totally down the drain from the streamers if the deal holds.

There is this perception that Hindi cinema is struggling but South is roaring but nothing can be further from the truth. No doubt Hindi cinema is struggling for various reasons but its no different in the South and industries face a lack of content to hold up the exhibition sector. The disasters in Hindi like Sikandar and Bade Miyan Chotte Miyan and Sikandar are widely publicized while when a South film is a disaster nobody really hears about it. Here the Thug Life collections over three days are less than the Saturday of Housefull 5 but that will go unnoticed.

Even within the hindi film industry there are many thinking South is doing well due to perception being built by the odd film film which comes and scores in Hindi circuits and then you have the fake numbers from South. The two big south industries (Tamil and Telugu) are struggling in terms of content with Telugu exhibition sector suffering with limited local content to hold up their huge single screen presence. The Kannada industry is pretty much the same while the industry in Kerala is doing better in box office terms but they have their internal problems.
