Vikram Vedha has had a fair opening at places (select multiplexes) but generally the opening is low at around 15-20%. The opening of the film is similar to Shamshera at mass centres but multiplex collections are better especially in the East and South. The film also has a wider release than Shamshera which should help it get a higher collection.

Shamshera had a rather flat first day in that it did not really improve much in the evening and the hope is that it is different for Vikram Vedha and the film shows more momentum in the evening and night shows and this is possible. The disappointment for the film are the collections from mass circuits and Navratri can be the reason for this in some some pockets but all mass circuits are low. This is basically as there is no music in the film and treatment seems to cater more towards the gentry.

Vikram Vedha will be catering more the big city multiplexes despite being an action film and its fate will be depending on how they progress over the weekend. There also seems a huge miscalculation on the release date as the big holiday of Gandhi Jayanti is on Sunday so it pretty much makes that holiday irrelevant so a far better release date would have been 5th October which is a holiday for Dusshera and the film would have got a 5 day extended weekend and it would have been after Navratri. 

A Tamil dubbed film Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 has also been released and the opening is fair for a Tamil dubbed film with a weird name and it may collect 1.50 crore nett plus. This film has opened huge in Tamil Nadu and maybe heading for a 20 crore or even higher day one in that state and there have been very few films going above 20 crore nett in that state.
