Kesari Chapter 2 had a low opening but the film is more about what happens post the afternoon as it has nothing for the youth or mass audiences so initial collections were never going to come especially in the circuits. The film has a holiday for Good Friday which is a pretty good holiday as seen by the numbers of Crew last year so that should benefit the film.
But be it holiday or no holiday its eventually about the content and Kesari Chapter 2 in on the niche side going by the trailer and that will restrict initial business. It makes it even tougher when there is a star like Akshay Kumar as this concept type of cinema has not really worked with stars post the pandemic as audience wants to see stars in a certain way and this is because there is a different audience profile out there today.
The film will be mainly more the metros but the film has a regional base so East Punjab becomes very important as that market has to lead but its a circuit which is not doing well at all especially Punjab (political) where Kesari - Chapter 2 would have had more chances. A film like this would have racked up 2 crore nett pre pandemic in the circuit on Good Friday but today even half of that is a task.
It remains to be seen how Good Friday pushes the film and hopefully the holiday can get it to some sort of respectable number as collections get better in the evening and if that happens it becomes dependent on Saturday as all these types of films are. It is a tough landscape out there and it becomes even tough for these films which have a limited audience as without support of the wider audience numbers struggle to come.
A minor positive is that film has opened better than recent Akshay Kumar starrers in this zone but looked at it that way the numbers are still not befitting a star like Akshay Kumar who still remains a popular star with the audience despite recent films not faring well and this is down to the content of these films and choices made.
