This week will see the release of two Hindi films Doctor G and Codename - Tirangaa but it is very possible that Kannada BLOCKBUSTER Kantara will lead the race. This film has racked up 60 crore nett in Karnataka since release with 22 crore nett coming in week one and the second week is a sensational 38 crore nett in just five days. The film has amassed 40 lakh footfalls in its run till date.

That is in the South and not every smash hit there will score in the Hindi circuits. The difference here for Kantara is that it has grossed 1.30 crore nett in Hindi circuits since release in Kannda language. KGF 2 had grossed 1.50 crore nett and this will film beat that number in a few days to become the highest grosser in Kannada in Hindi circuits. So its these numbers which give the film potential.

The bulk of this business has come from Maharashtra and that is where the dubbed Hindi version of Kantara can really score. So Mumbai circuit, CP Berar and Marathwada are likely to open well as all have bulk of the business coming from Maharashtra. Odisha should also see good opening numbers. 

The rest of the country will be about the public reports of the film but the collections from Maharashtra and Odisha may well be enough to surpass the likes of Doctor G which is high end multiplex film and its a tough road for these type of films. Kantara will be getting a huge release across all circuits and will be the biggest release for a dubbed film this year after KGF 2 and RRR. 

The film will also be screened on a concessional rate of INR 150 across most multiplexes for the weekend which should prove beneficial for the film especially if reports are positive for the film. The target audience is also such where a lower rate can make a difference. All said and done this film holds the edge this week even though its a dubbed film.
