Dunki managed to sell 2.37 lakh tickets in the national chains (PVRINOX and Cinepolis) as the last day never got huge momentum and should have maybe got to a higher number by 30-35k but still its a good advance in these chains as the film was never likely to bust the box office in terms of initial. This probably makes the 30 crore nett first day number tougher and a lot depends on how the film moves with the firstd ay audience.
Dunki will be city centric as advances are better in the metros and that includes Mumbai which has underperformed for most films but here the advances are relatively good. The South and Kolkatta lead while core Hindi circuits are low and so is Punjab where teh film is based. The key for the film is what happens post the first day, there have been films in this zone which have had better numbers but that was all pre pandemic and this film will set the benchmarks for these drama type of films post pandemic
The film is involved in a clash with Salaar and screen sharing and show allocation issues crop up which was always going to happen and the media will blow it up to be bigger than it is because eventually you will end up with the screens you deserve. The clash is sure to hurt as both are big films but due to star power the edge was always with Dunki even though the genre is not optimum for the initial
The advances of Salaar (Hindi) remain low and the last day is crucial for that film as far as advances go and then its down to the first day audience and the film has a lot of work to do as it has to get some sort of number up on day one. In fact even Dunki has a lot of work to do if it is to be a good Xmas for the industry but this was expectations in the industry were too high especially for the first day number. The top advances of all time at the national chains in terms of admits are as follows.
