Happy New Year had a huge first weekend with collections around the 97 crore nett mark. The collections were record breaking on day one as it was national holiday but the next two days saw collections drop to lower levels with both days collecting below 30 crore nett. Saturday was a holiday in some parts of the country which meant Sunday failed to show any worthwhile growth from Saturday.

The film set a record in Mumbai circuit grossing around 32.5 crore nett but most of the other circuits fell a little short of Dhoom 3 as far as weekend business is concerned. Both Delhi/UP and East Punjab were around 25 lakhs nett less than Dhoom 3.

The weekend numbers are huge but ideally it would have been better a trend if the film settled at above 30 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday rather than below it. Now the Monday number is all important if it is to challenge the biggest grosser of 2013 Kick. Kick grossed around 155 crore nett in week one.

The Tamil and Telugu versions of the film did not perform that well as this market is mainly for actions films.
