The three main releases this week Doctor G, Kantara and Codename Tirangaa and it is the Ayushmann Khurana starrer Doctor G which has come out on top with 10-12% as far as the opening goes. The opening is low and pretty much in the same range as Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui which opened last December but with better market conditions now hopefully it will edge past that film.
The opening would be fine if the film gets that 70-80% growth on Saturday but post pandemic that is just not happenning and the problem lies with the Saturday trend which makes it important to get better day one collections on the first day.
The other Hindi release Codename Tirangaa has taken a very low opening of 0-5% andon top it is showing on very low concessional rates which will mean very low collections. The film is a female action film in the zone of Dhaakad but it is likely to collect less.
The other release was Kantara which is a Kannada dubbed film. This film in its original format is a blockbuster in Karnataka and although the trailer does not look much the film had done very well its original format in Hindi circuits and will beat the numbers of KGF 2 in the same which gave hope for the Hindi version.
The success of KGF 2 has meant that even Kannada films are being dubbed into Hindi though likes of Vikrant Rana and Hello Charlie were rejected outright. This film though should have at least done better in Maharashtra where a film like this can appeal but it has very dull collections in Maharashtra also. It will be a tough fight to do anything in Delhi, UP, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana etc but hopefully Maharashtra can still find an audience for this film. The film is on concessional rates which should have proven to be beneficial for the film.
