The big Telugu film RRR set for release next week which will also release in Hindi circuits in a dubbed version looks set to get postponed or should we say thats the word from the grapevine. As soon as restrictions started coming into play it was always going to be tough and when Jersey postponed it looked like that RRR would follow.

But the makers made it clear they were coming and kept on with promotions which made it look like that the film would come but eventually there is fear all around the market as to what is going to happen over the next few days with the various state governments regarding the new Omicron threat.

The producers have the advances and they really do want to get the film out there as the cost will just rise if the film gets postponed and the budget is already a huge amount. The angle is different for distributors as they will have to make balance payment for delivery and they will be mad to do that when there is fear of a lockdown looming over their heads. According to the grapevine the Hindi distributor wanted to take the film at 15-20% of its original price which would have meant the producers having to refund some of the advance.

These balance payments would hardly be forthcoming as distributors will not want to knock themselves out if the likely restrictions come into play next week or when the film releases. Basically Overseas delivery was expected today but it was not delivered and this probably because distributors in India not willing to part with balance payments for delivery.

It could be a technical issue but that is unlikely and the delivery is being held back as distributors are not ready to release at original prices and the discounted prices means returning money to distributors and insane losses on release. The postponement of the film is pending and its just about an announcement as it would be complete professional hara-kiri to release the film in these conditions be it Omicron or the financial side.
