Sitaare Zameen Par had a fair opening in terms of the content it is offering but it has Aamir Khan coming after three years so obviously better numbers are expected if you look at it from that side. Also many Aamir Khan films had taken good starts on this type of social feel good films pre pandemic but things have moved on from then.

The difference being there is a lesser crowd in metros today and secondly the star factor alone today is not enough as has been many times and it needs that star to come with the right content and then there is some initial response. Sitaare Zameen Par has nothing for the core Hindi circuits and there is not even a song to make some impact here so its relying on the bigger multiplexes and in that context the opening day will be okay.

The film will be lopsided towards the PVR Inox chain as advances were far strong there as it has the most premium multiplexes and also seems some minor bulk buys which is said to be from schools but eventually its all going to be about the appreciation it can get from this metro crowd and where the film goes post the weekend. Saturday and Sunday should be good as the families in thee metros should be out. The film had minimal shows in fear of low occupancy not that post 12pm till afternoon would be a lot better.  

It is a sad scenario for the industry that an Aamir Khan comes after three years and its a film like this. It would not be so bad if this was one of many releases as you get cumulative numbers but the ones which do limited work have to come with grossers as the expectations are higher from them.  It also shows the lack of options for the bigger stars as far as that wider appealing films go as an Aamir Khan comes back with this film post a Laal Singh Chaddha when reinvention was probably order the day
