Border 2 had a good first day as it collected around 29-30 crore nett on the first day with very good collections in Delhi / UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Bihar with let down being Gujarat. It was less in Maharashtra and South but that was sort of expected and it was Gujarat where around 1-1.50 crore nett more was expected but its possible that North India regional feel kept the film low.
West Bengal was 1.75 crore which is actually the standout performance as films with a North feel dont perform there barring some exceptions and this number is pretty huge though there was a holiday there and it remains to be seen what happens here on Saturday. If this circuit works the film is sure to do well. Bihar was another excellent circuit with around 1.65 crore nett. The other circuits which have done excellent were expected to do the numbers.
The weaker side is Mumbai and it remains to be seen where this goes as potentially there is upside here especially in the Gujarat pocket. Overall the film has got a good opening day and it will be about what level the film can go to Sunday. The growth on Saturday will come in some pockets but these sort of circuits like West Bengal and Bihar which have scored so well may be flat or even down which can curtail some of that growth.
The film looks set to do well but comparisons will come with Gadar 2 which is a huge comparison as it created history and going by the first day collections the appeal of that film was wider and thats not to say this film is not wide as multiplex chains are just a little over 40% contribution but just not as much as Gadar 2 which had insane collections in the smaller centres across the country and is that rare film from the hindi film industry in recent times which saw such high occupancy from the first show..
The film also managed good numbers overseas with Australia being very good though North America will be affected a little with late arrival of prints.
