Border 2 has taken a good opening and will likely record the highest opening day box office collection of 2025 / 2026 but it will be about how much higher it can go over this 30 crore nett mark. The opening day of Gadar 2 was 39 crore nett and that will be a tall order but even 10-15% less than that would be a very good result.
The film is excellent in places like Delhi / UP, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar while South is on the weaker side. Mumbai and Gujarat is good though the latter could have been better. The surprise on the upside is West Bengal but here there is a minor holiday here which could be helping. There are still some iconic single screens left in places like Delhi, Lucknow and Agra and these have practically opened to full houses as well as Rajmandir in Jaipur but that is a given.
The smaller centres are very good and far better than any film released after Pushpa 2 which includes Sikandar and War 2 but its not that Gadar 2 type of euphoria as far as the opening show goes but there is plenty of time. There is said to be a lot of negativity for the film in the digital especially for the teaser and Varun Dhawan but there is a huge difference between the digital world and the real world and if it was really bad especially the teaser you would not have this opening.
In todays time first impression is last impression it is very hard to recover after. Generally the units have been good and the music is also good which goes with the film and will work for the film. There is an issue of VFX but as this is now seen with so much scrutiny that it will be an issue for almost all the films as simply the cost to make it look real is out of reach for makers in India. Even in Hollywood with the mega budgets it does sometimes not look real so what chance in india. More than that Border 2 is about having emotional appeal rather than the VFX.
The film has set itself up well and now its just down to the public response and to what level the film goes on Sunday as then both mass and families should be on board. Overall its a HIT opening and now the film should go on climbing.
