The big Diwali release this year Thama has seen a good opening though in the industry it may be seen as less due to the expectations but the initial can be termed as good. Its very much like Kantara Chapter 1 (Hindi) which opened well but it did not meet the expectations and Thama is on a similar lines. 

The comparison for the film will be Kantara Chapter 1 as though the holiday is bigger there is Puja falling today (at places) which takes some juice out of the holiday but Thama has business from the South markets which Kantara Chapter 1 did not have and that should be more than enough to take it above the Kantara Chapter 1 first day total. Mumbai circuit and Maharashtra circuits have opened below Kantara Chapter 1 but the rest is way ahead.

The horror universe factor has probably not worked as it should because on that basis and holiday factor it should have opened bigger but we may just be seeing a little edge being taken of these franchise / universe films as the public sees one almost every week so the decision to watch or not is slowly moving towards on how each individual film looks.

Thama had a good trailer though it probably lacked mass appeal in terms of the look and feel of the film and probably needed one song to really  score and though music is good no song has really killed it. Still the holiday will ensure the film is in a good position but the film will need merit to go on and there is a lot of work to be done and it has to sustain. Gujarat / Saurashtra belt will be the key for this films due to its extended holiday and on Diwali if a film works in this belt then it normally succeeds.
