There was a big clash on this day 33 years ago (29/5/1987) as Dance Dance, Mr India and Muqaddar Ka Faisla released together. The victory easily came for Mr. India in the initial battle as it was a far bigger film than the other two but in the long run Dance Dance proved to be the most successful film of the three due to its low costs. The Mithun Chakraborty film was the smallest film of the three and only the only plus point it has was Mithun Chakravorty and that proved enough in some circuits.

The opening was a clean sweep for Mr India as it opened at around 14 lakhs nett on 100 plus screens while Dance Dance was on around 10 lakhs from odd 80 screens and Muqaddar Ka Faisla collected 9 lakhs on 100 screens. Mr India opened in CI in its second week while Dance Dance and Muqaddar Ka Faisla opened in week two in many circuits. The above figures are calculated with day one of every circuit to keep it like for like.

Muqaddar Ka Faisla was directed by Prakash Mehra who had an extraordinary box office record till this film but mainly with Amitabh Bachchan. This film went down pretty fast and saw rejection all over. Mr India easily did the highest business of the three but it was a big budget film and appreciation was restricted to Mumbai and South with Delhi city and Kolkatta also being okay with it but the likes of Gujarat, UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan and CI were not impressive for such a big film and this held the business back. The film is always claimed to being remade by someone today but the mass markets will see same results again as an invisible hero has no takers in mass markets because an invisible hero hardly has any visual appeal. It may work at a smaller level but not at a blockbuster level. The bigger centres accepted the film especially Mumbai city, Hyderabad and Bangalore and these centres pulled the film through.

Dance Dance was the surprise riding on the stardom of Mithun Chakraborty it emerged a SUPER HIT in West Bengal, Nizam / Andhra and Mysore while barring East Punjab the other circuits did good to average business. The business of Dance Dance in West Bengal was actually higher than Mr India and this despite Mr India being a far bigger film. Mr India was better in Kolkata but Dance Dance was better in the circuit and at that time the circuit held some value which is not the case today. Dance Dance fared poorly in Delhi city and East Punjab.
