The biggest blockbuster Sholay continues to dominate even after more than 41 years of its release. The legendary blockbuster took in 75 lakh impressions on a television screening last week. This is more than what films like Dilwale, Bajirao Mastani, Fan, Airlift, Rustom managed on first screenings and the numbers only went lower fro them after. This is not the only time that is got good ratings on television. Many times it has been in the 30-40 lakh region. Even after this long the film is finding an audience which puts it a class apart. The film on release in 1975 was labelled a disaster by reviewers and the trade which is the biggest example of how big the disconnect is between writers and viewers which is still as bad today. There are no words to describe the appreciation of this film. Very few films find real public appreciation but no film can compare with Sholay.
Shivaay has also emerged a HIT on television as it put up a decent first screening but consolidated very well on its second screening. The top hits on television from all the releases last year are as follows. (Dangal yet to be be screened)
1. Sultan
2. Dishoom
3. Housefull 3
4. Baaghi
5. Shivaay
