Q. There are so many clashes next year like Raees v Kaabil, Ring v Crack, Robot v Golmaal Again so can't themakers just sort it out and come two weeks apart giving each film time..

A. There was a time in the industry when makers chased the biggest superstars who were invincible as far as initial was concerned, today the makers chase holidays which are bigger than any superstar today as far as collections go. In fact they are so big that a superstar can only get a big opening on a holiday. There is not much that can be done about this as the date is so important for results as our box office is very initial orientated. Raees v Kaabil is on and lets see what happens with the others. Crack may not make it and Diwali is wait and watch.

Q. You say that films like Neerja, Pink and now Dear Zindagi have linited appreciation but the world loves these films?

A. When films are loved there has to be stats to prove that. The press can say what they like but facts never lie. These films get an audience of 60 lakhs in theatres and the television response is a disaster. Its not what is said that counts but the facts. No doubt these film succeed but due to budget as when the makers think they have a franchise the second film is made on double the budget and the cookie crumbles then about the appreciation. Rock On!! was also a so called loved film but the first day results of its sequel spell out the truth.

Q. Would it be correct to say that Shahrukh Khan in Dear Zindagi is the biggest impact ever in an extended guest role?

A. No. Amitabh Bachchan in Andhaa Kanoon (1983) and Sunny Deol in Damini (1993) had the sort of impact that is unlikley to be matched. These films were bigger Hits than Dear Zindagi and terms of appreciation you just can't compare, Andhaa Kanoon and Damini are on a different level.

Q. Alia Bhatt is a big young star but if Dear Zindagi is her biggest Worldwide opening then the box office is not commensurate with her popularity

A. There are two reasons, one is the heroes opposite her who are generally not big stars and the other is limited reach cinema. Actually both are linked as the reach also depends on the popularity of the hero. It will have to change to fulfil potential but not easy as the megastars are much older so it will be down to pairings with heroes like Ranbir and Varun to clock the blockbuster numbers and increase the reach.
