Malang has grossed around 6 crore nett on day one which is a decent number for the cast of the film but not for the genre which needs a better start. The first day number means the film needs good growth over the weekend which would not actually be a problem for most films as 40-50% growth on Saturday is normal now.
The problem here will the genre finds it hard to show big jumps on Saturday and on top there is election in Delhi which will mean many multiplexes shut till the evening. The film does have the third best opening day of the year after Tanha - The Unsung Warrior and Street Dancer 3 but that is not saying much. the film could have done better numbers in mass markets due to the genre but the cast comes in the way of that. Business in CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan, UP and Bihar is on the lower side for an action/ thriller.
Shikara managed to collect around 75 lakhs nett on day one with a huge ratio of business coming from the three big national chains of PVR, Inox and Cinepolis especially the former which is almost half the all India business. This sort of ratio is very rare. The film will have to show a huge weekend trend but if thefilm can more than double on Saturday it will have a chanc eon Monday
