The box office on Saturday (Nov 26th) paints a positive picture or at least an encouraging scenario as compared to what was happening a few months back. The collections on Saturday are more than what was collected by major releases on Raksha Bandhan and Diwali holidays.
We can get into the nitty gritty of the content of those releases but fact remains they were big releases with big stars on holidays with two of those films coming on the biggest holiday of the year. So for a normal Saturday to be better where one film is its second week (albeit and established winner) and the second film is not doing very moderate business is a result.
The growth on Saturday also seems to be improving and there is a generally a better feel at the box office as compared to a few months back. The release of Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan is probably going to be the lowest point ever for Hindi cinema or we hope is the lowest point ever and it is behind us now.
Obviously there is a long way to but its a gradual improvement and further down the line there will be content which is more fresher which only help bring more people to the theatres. Below is a comparison of the business yesterday (26th Nov) compared to the recent big holidays. Only the main releases have been counted.
