The Christmas week saw the best collections at the box office India since the reopning of cinemas as a film from Hollywood (Wonder Woman 1984 and a film from the Telugu film industry (Solo Brathuke So Better) found an audience.
Wonder Woman 1984 collected 10.50 crore nett over an extended eight day week plus previews. There was a drop in collections over the weekdays but that has been par for the course since cinemas returned and the second weekend should see better collections. Wonder Woman 1984 should go over 15 core nett in the long run which is a decent final number. If it can reach 18 crore nett then it would mean just 20% less than the first Wonder Woman film which released in English only but in a normal scenario for the box office.
The Telugu film So Brathuke So Better also did well in the first week as it collected 13.25 crore nett across India in the first week. The film also saw collections come down on weekdays but overall the film has scrored. Around 12.50 crore nett of the 13.25 crore nett has come from Nizam / Andhra where it has to cover costs of around 9 crore apprx. The share of the film in Nizam / Andhra should be around 8.50 crore in week one especially as the terms could be better than normal.
Wonder Woman 1984 had support from the youth in metros while So Brathuke So Better got support from mass audience in Nizam / Andhra. This shows its mainly the youth which is coming out to cinemas at the moment be it urban or mass youth and sustaining collections will be difficult until family audiences return.
