Gold took the third best start of the year in terms of first day occupancy with collections in the 50-55% range. Satyemeva Jayate was also good in joint fifth place with around 40-45% collections which is similar to Padmaavat in terms of occupancy. Both film have benefit of the national holiday for Independence Day.
The films may have lower screen counts than a film like Baaghi 2 but due to the big national holiday the ticket rates are far higher than Baaghi 2. It means capacity of Satyamev Jayate 2 is just 10-12% less than Baaghi 2 despite on 30% screens. Gold will have higher capacity than Baaghi 2 despite being on 10-12% less screens than Baaghi 2.
Independence Day has yielded very good results and now it will if Gold and Satyameva Jayate can continue to sustain over the extended long weekend. The top ten openings in 2018 in terms of occupancy in morning shows are as follows
