If Manmohan Desai was alive today he would be very proud to see his 70’s formula being reworked at such magnitude. And if this is any indicator of the kind of movies coming up in 2009 then anything in excess like CC2C will lead to indigestion for all movie goers.
CC2C is a story about a cook called Sidhu who is fooled into believing that he is the reincarnation of a Chinese warrior. This leads him to China to kill the villain Hojo (who’s lost his Mojo!). To stretch this flimsy storyline the writers Shridhar Raghvan & Rajat Arora adds dollops of set pieces and sub plots like lost twin sisters (Deepika Padukone pulling a Seeta & Geeta), a father who has lost his memory (roles which Pran, Jeevan & Satyen Kappu have played in numerous Manmohan Desai films), a villain who is a throwback to Kancha Cheena from Agneepath and also has a hang over of a Chinese Gabbar Singh who kills with his hat and yes he also reminds you of Shakaal from Shaan.
The screenplay is crafted in such a manner that if you don’t connect with the film from the beginning you will never be able to absorb the film at all. This is one screenplay where you don’t care for the story but you wait for the next gag to come and there are a few of them that are genuinely funny and some unintentionally funny.
Akshay Kumar does nothing which he has not done before but still he is the only one who is enjoying himself the most. This film is a final wake up call for him to reinvent himself and change his act. Deepika Padukone is fantastic in the action sequences but that’s about it. The people who deserve applause are the entire technical crew behind the film. This is a film which will be enjoyed mostly by children and people who have managed to keep the madness in them alive.
Final Few Words: If you love Manmohan Desai & Stephen Chow then you must give this one a try or else enter the theatre at your own risk.
