Ittefaq had a low opening day of 4 crore nett apprx but this was better than what it looked in the morning as the evening shows picked up a little. The film fared best in Mumbai but that was going to happen due to the Mumbai city base of the film and also the genre. The collections in North were poor and that is where the problem will probably be for the film. A huge chunk of the premium multiplex business comes from Delhi NCR and to get a decent figure this area has to accept the film which will not be easy. The business in Mumbai circuit was double of Delhi / UP on the first day.
On the other side the film despite a low first day it has actually had the best opening day this year for the films which have a total investment of under 30 crore nett and despite hardly no promotion which again proves the fact that promotion which is the added pressure on a film is pretty irrelevent. The top opening days this year for films costing under 30 crore nett are as follows.
1. Ittefaq - 4 crore apprx
2. Phillauri - 3.86 crore
3. Begum Jaan - 3.64 crore
4. Ok Jaanu - 3.54 crore
5. Shubh Mangal Saavdhan - 2.64 crore
6. Hindi medium - 2.50 crore
7. Simran - 2.43 crore
8. Bareilly Ki Barfi - 2.17 crore
9. Poster Boys - 1.70 crore
10. Meri Pyaari Bindu - 1.67 crore
The only film from the above to really work was Hindi Medium while Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Bareilly Ki Barfi were also successful and for all of them its not about day one but what happens post Monday and it will be same case for Ittefaq.
