Tubelight has faltered after the weekend as the Eid audience has not really come to the theatres like it has happened past. It was a big holiday so the film should have held its collections like Sunday and added the Muslim audience in most of India but that has not happenned. The collections will show a drop on Monday as compared to Sunday. The figure will be known in the morning as some places are up but others have seen big falls as compared to day one and Sunday but Monday is a huge setback for the film.
Despite the negativity around the film and the poor reports it still looked like cruising to 150 crore nett plus total with the normal Eid trend but with that audience not coming it could even struggle to become the biggest grosser of the first half of 2017 (outright Hindi films) and this will send shock waves around the industry. The distributors will loose heavily but that is not much of an issue as when you pay such high prices the risk is always there and on top the producers profits are more than double the distributors losses thanks to a record digital price. Nothing is wrong in terms of economics (budget) of the film and it is not a financial disaster but for the industry not to have a 150 crore nett grosser in the first half of the year when Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan. Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan have all had releases is a shocker. A dubbed Telugu film will do more in Hindi than the combined business of the four films featuring these big stars and that shows the sad state of affairs in the Hindi film industry. It pretty much tells the story of 2017 till date which is one film proves that huge business is there and the audience wants to come but we are unable to deliver.
There will be talk of even Salman Khan on a downward spiral now but nothing really changes for him, he remains the most popular star for the Hindi audience by a distance and it will take 4 or 5 Tubelight's to change that. But it is the responsibility of the star to make sure that a big festival release does not have arty treatment by the director as is the case here, the reports of a slow arty type film among the audience have ensured his mass following has not turned up after Eid which is a huge setback not only for the film but the industry also.
