Tubelight has opened well at around 35-40% on average across India in the morning shows. The opening was better in the North as in Delhi and Punjab the collections are not really affected by pre Eid while the morning figures were good to decent elsewhere.
The opening in terms of occupancy is the third best of the year after Bahubali - The conclusion and Raees. The occupancy is lower than Raees due to the release as this is the widest release ever with 4400 screens while Raees had a clash with Kaabil which meant less screens which enabled a higher occupancy.
The opening has been affected by Pre Eid but the film also shows Salman Khan as not the hero type which also is a factor in that the opening in smaller towns is lower than other Salman Khan pre Eid releases like Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Then there is the affect of Bahubali - The Conclusion as this film is the first big release since that juggernaut which showed the masses that this sort of cinema can still happen and Tubelight is not that type mass cinema. In the context of what happens every Friday the film has opened well as very few films open at this level but if we look at it as a Salman Khan starrer and the expectations then it is underwhelming
The main multiplexes in North have opened with occupancy of 50% and even other big plexes in other parts of the country are decent. Its rare but its the first time in years that a Salman Khan film has not opened quite like it should in mass centres and this is allowing for the pre Eid factor. Its going to be and up and down day due to pre Eid as collections outside North will fall in the afternoon and then pick up again in the evening
