Badrinath Ki Dulhania has done well on day one with collections of around 12 crore nett. The numbers are very similar to the Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 and the film is the second highest opener ever for a Varun Dhawan starrer after ABCD 2 if we leave Dilwale out of the equation. The difference between ABCD 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania is that the former was a summer release while the latter has come in March. Despite ABCD 2 being a dance film which don't really work in North and Badrinath Ki Dulhania being a very North Indian film the collections of ABCD 2 were more in North when it should be the opposite. The film has put up a good number but a summer release could have meant 2 crore added on day one alone.

The collections of the film have beaten Jolly LLB 2 in most circuits with mainly Delhi city having a shortfall and East Punjab having a huge a shortfall. It was raining in parts of East Punjab which could have affected collections by 10-15%. The opening and extended weekend with Holi on Monday is enough to ensure the success of the film but with the last film in the franchise doing 73 crore nett in its lifetime run and Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt consolidating themselves as stars since that film it should be going much higher for than that film.

The March period may not be good for such a youth love story in terms of potential to collect but the plus is a lack of competition as far as big films go in the next few weeks which could allow the film to sustain well if it gets the appreciation.
